Enter, stranger, but take heed, of what awaits the sin of greed.
Yes, the new LEGO Harry Potter 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank looks impressive – but do you really need it? As much as we’d all love to buy every single new LEGO set, there are limits to how many we can all bring home.
So, should you buy LEGO Gringotts?
LEGO Harry Potter’s direct to consumer sets tend to be big, beautiful and, uh, bexpensive. For the most part, there’s also no consistency to these sets – sometimes you’ll get a life-sized owl, another time, a very long train, or just a big honkin’ castle that there is no decent way to display from all angles unless you set it up on the coffee table as the permanent central feature of your house.
As such, LEGO Harry Potter fans can be forgiven for picking and choosing which large sets you purchase. Some are just going to fit the space you have available better than others, and, let’s be fair, some are going to be more interesting to you personally than others.
To a certain extent, the new LEGO Gringotts fits in with existing direct to consumer large Harry Potter sets better than others. It’s designed to expand 75978 Diagon Alley, adding in a building that was previously conspicuous by its absence from this set when on display.
If, then, you’ve already got Diagon Alley and you want it to be just a little more complete, then, absolutely, LEGO Gringotts has got you covered. It fits in nicely, almost as if it was meant to be here all along. Because, it probably was.
Except…
Take heed of what awaits the sin of greed.
Because this set isn’t just meant to fit in with Diagon Alley, and, indeed, if you’re planning to display it as part of Diagon Alley, you’ve got some tough choices to make.
